Wildlife Leads to Outage

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – On Monday, May 10, Mohave Electric Cooperative members experienced a power outage starting at 8:55 AM lasting to 9:36 AM. The outage affected 1,290 members in Mohave Valley north and south of King Street, west of Hwy 95.

With MEC contractor crews working on the energized distribution system in the area, MEC implemented circuit safety protection that would disconnect power immediately if there were any incidental contact with the electric lines and stay disconnected until the problem is identified and MEC crews take action.

During this time, a bird contacted electrical equipment resulting in the power outage. MEC crew members verified the safety of the contract crews working and confirmed the outage cause and restored power.

Tyler Carlson, CEO of MEC states “Be sure to report an outage! Do not rely on neighbors or other individuals to be the reporting party as outages might be affecting you different than others. With your help in reporting the outage, MEC is able to track affected outage locations much sooner.”

Please remember, there are many ways to report an outage. You can call our toll-free line at 1-844-632-2667, text “outage” to 55050 from a number linked to your MEC account or use our SmartHub application on your mobile device to report the outage.
