Train Carrying Wind Energy Turbine Damages MEC Power Pole

BNSF is known for transporting unusual items such as wind energy components, but sometimes things don’t go as planned.

On Friday, April 23rd at around 5:30 pm, BNSF Railroad was transporting multiple wind turbine blades when one fell off a railroad flatcar and struck a Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) pole breaking it at ground level.

To replace the broken pole, MEC crews deenergized a portion of the line resulting in three BNSF meters losing power. On Monday, the pole was replaced, and power was restored to BNSF meters.

Although MEC has little control over this type of outage, as a utility company we respond to outages with urgency to have the power back on as soon as possible for our members.

Please remember, there are many ways to report an outage. You can call our toll-free line at 1-844-632-2667, text “outage” to 55050 from a number linked to your MEC account or use our SmartHub application on your mobile device to report the outage.
