BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – Severe lightning storms with high winds caused scattered outages in Mohave Electric Cooperative’s service territory early Tuesday morning. MEC crews responded to ten separate outages beginning at 1:15 a.m.
An outage in MEC’s eastern service area resulted in 2,546 MEC members without power due to storm damage to a pole ground wire. The outage occurred at 6:43 a.m. Crews responded and made repairs restoring power was at 8:07 a.m..
Another storm-related outage near Bullhead City Airport, resulted in 582 MEC members without power.
Manager of Engineering & Operations, Jerry Hardy stated, “Although we can’t control the weather, flying debris and trees blowing into electric lines during storms are a leading cause of power outages and can pose serious electrical hazards A tree limb may fall into a power line or electrical equipment which can cause a short. It is important for members to be aware of their surroundings at all times and keep trees 15 feet on either side of power lines.”
