MEC gives local students $5,000 with new scholarship program
Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) is proud to announce two student winners for MEC’s brand new 2022 Scholarship Program.
Thanks to MEC’s executive leadership, students in MEC’s service territory attending a higher education institution this fall semester were eligible to apply for assistance up to $5,000. Applications were received on April 30, 2022, and a panel of judges selected two student winners.
River Valley High School graduate, Ryan Beams, received a $3,750 scholarship as he enters his freshman year as an Accounting major at the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. Additionally, Martha Valle Herrera, a full-time employee of Tristate Pain Institute, received a $1,250 scholarship for her upcoming studies at the Charles of Italy Beauty School.
CEO Tyler Carlson envisioned a supplementary, MEC awarded scholarship, and CFO Ardie Lauxman put into action an assigned capital credits account to create such a program. This annual scholarship is in addition to the thousands of dollars provided to Mohave Community College (MCC) to award student scholarships.
“MEC is pleased with these two student applicants as they further their educational goals and who took the time to complete the application for MEC’s new scholarship,” said Tyler Carlson, CEO of MEC.
CFO Ardie Lauxman added, “Education, Training, and Information are part of the 7 Cooperative Principles upheld by MEC to support the future of even the youngest of our members, if and when we can. We look forward to next year’s applicants!”
