Investing in Tomorrow's 4-H Leaders at the Mohave County Fair

Every year, the Mohave County Fair brings together families, agriculture, and community spirit while providing local youth with an opportunity to showcase months of hard work and dedication. One of the fair’s most anticipated events is the Livestock Auction, held on Saturday, September 19, at 6:00 p.m. during the 2026 Mohave County Fair, which runs September 17–20 at the Mohave County Fairgrounds in Kingman.

Mohave Electric Cooperative proudly supports young exhibitors within our service area from the Buck-N-Doe 4-H Club in Peach Springs and the Desert Gallopers 4-H Club in Mohave Valley.

At the Livestock Auction, 4-H members present animals they have raised as part of their projects, including chickens, sheep, swine, and steer. Individuals, businesses, and organizations bid on the animals, either for personal use or simply to encourage and support the youth who have devoted countless hours to their projects.

Through its Commitment to Community, MEC invests in programs and organizations that strengthen the communities it serves and help develop the next generation of leaders.

While the auction is open to the public, its primary purpose is to help young exhibitors recover the costs associated with raising their animals. Feed, veterinary care, equipment, and other expenses can add up quickly throughout the year. The proceeds from the sale help offset those costs, and any additional earnings can be reinvested into future projects, education, or other worthwhile goals.

Participating in a livestock project teaches much more than animal care. Youth gain valuable experience in responsibility, time management, record keeping, budgeting, communication, and marketing. They learn the importance of setting goals, overcoming challenges, and presenting their projects with confidence. These life skills help prepare them for future careers and personal success long after the fair has ended.

MEC’s support of these young exhibitors reflects the Cooperative’s ongoing Commitment to Community improving the quality of life throughout its service area. Funding for these purchases comes from assigned Capital Credits, allowing MEC to invest in local youth at no cost to the Cooperative or its members.

Community support plays a vital role in the success of the Livestock Auction, and everyone is encouraged to attend. Whether placing a bid, cheering on a young exhibitor, or simply learning more about the dedication behind each project, your participation helps make a lasting impact.
