Mohave Electric Cooperative / TWN Communications Broadband FAQ’s
Where exactly is this service going to be offered?
Mohave Electric Cooperative, partnered with TWN Communications, will design a network consisting of fiber optic solutions. The goal is for ALL MEC members to have access to at least a 25x25 connection when the project is complete. Members will be able to influence where fiber optic internet is deployed using an online pre-registration format that will track interest and demand.
How do I pre-register for this service?
You can pre-register for service at www.mohaveelectric.com. Once service becomes available in your area, we will notify you to complete the sign-up process. Pre-registration is not a commitment or contract but is important to the project construction by helping MEC and TWN identify the areas of member interest for broadband deployment.
How long before fiber internet becomes available in my area?
The best way to receive updates is to pre-register. You will be able to track progress and find updates at the project’s website, www.mohaveelectric.com. TWN will begin construction of the network infrastructure soon and anticipates service will be available to members in phases and in different areas at different times. Availability in some member locations is expected later this year.
Is this offered to homes and businesses?
Yes, this service will be available to both homes and enhanced solutions for businesses.
What does this mean for me?
This means that you will have access to an affordable reliable broadband service providing at least 25 Mbps of download speeds and all the way up to 1 Gbps or more.
What does fiber optic mean?
Fiber optic is a type of broadband connection consisting of or using thin flexible fibers with a glass core through which light signals can be sent with very little loss of strength.
How does fiber optic differ from fixed wireless internet?
Fiber optic uses fiber optic cables to transmit an internet signal. Fixed wireless internet uses radio waves to transmit internet wirelessly between tower sites. Fixed wireless technology requires a line-of-sight to the signal to receive service. Whereas fiber optic service will be hard-wired directly to your home or business.
What does Wi-Fi mean?
Wi-Fi refers to a hotspot or an area that you can connect to the internet wirelessly. You can set up a Wi-Fi hotspot at a specific location, like a park or an event. Or you can use a Wi-Fi router in your home to connect to your internet wirelessly.
What are the benefits of fiber optic?
RELIABILITY over older, weaker copper-based technologies (DSL)
SUSTAINABILITY - Not susceptible to most weather conditions (unlike satellite)
SPEED - Fiber optic service generally offers faster speeds than other technologies
What kind of speed does fiber optic service provide?
We will offer download speeds starting at 25 Mbps, going all the way up to 1 Gbps or more.
If Mohave Electric is involved, will it affect my electric rates?
No. This is a standalone service and it will not affect your electric rates.
Does fiber optics have a wireless option?
A fiber connection will bring service to your home using a fiber-optic, cable-like cord, which will connect to a communications device installed inside of your home or business. For Wi-Fi, or wireless access within your home, a wireless router will be provided at the time of installation.
Will only one company be offering fiber optics?
While there may be other competitors in the area, MEC will be working with TWN to provide this service to members.
Who is the company?

MEC has worked with TWN for many years to provide fixed wireless internet service to many parts of our service territory. TWN is now offering a fiber solution that will offer fiber optic service to MEC’s members.
If I switch from my current internet provider, what assurances do I have my rates won’t skyrocket soon after?
TWN has never utilized a “bait and switch” pricing tactic and will not do that in the future. The base price for services will remain the same, with negligible changes in tax or regulatory charges as they may occur.
